Allan Ingelson

Associate Professor, Executive Director - Canadian Institute of Resources Law

University of Calgary

Executive Director of the Canadian Institute of Resources Law (2012 - present) and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law and Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. He holds Bachelor of Science, Juris Doctor and LL.M. degrees and has been a member of the Law Society of Alberta since 1991. He is the General Editor of the Canada Energy Law Service published by Carswell (Thomson Reuters). Before studying law, he worked in mineral exploration including performing hydrocarbon formation evaluations in Canada and the USA for Schlumberger. Professor Ingelson has published numerous articles in a variety of Canadian and international scholarly energy and environmental law journals, reports and books, and has taught numerous courses in the Global Energy Executive MBA program and other professional audiences on oil and gas industry regulation, environmental laws applicable to the oil and gas industry, oil and gas law, international petroleum transactions, environmental impact assessment and renewable energy. He has made invited presentations and workshops on the regulation of the oil and gas industry to regulators, industry and scholarly  audiences in Canada, USA, Peru, the Republic of Congo, China, India, Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia, Norway and Qatar. Since 2014 he has lead several projects that are part of the multidisciplinary Hydraulic Fracturing Research Initiative. Projects that he is currently working include developing a regulatory framework in Mexico for CO2 injection and enhanced oil recovery in Mexico; the regulation of hydraulic fracturing and the reuse of produced water in Canada and the USA; the regulation of hydraulic fracturing, waste water disposal and liability for induced seismicity in North America and Europe.
